Exact 117 years ago to the day the father of the Indian constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, was born. At that time the caste system and the discrimination of the untouchables (Dalits) in India was ubiquitous. Ambedkar, himself member of an untouchable caste, committed his life to the struggle for the Dalits and other minorities in the country.
Today, freedom of religion and the prohibition of discrimination of people belonging to a peculiar caste are granted in the constitution. But still Dalits, mainly in rural India, are much to often victims of discrimination, their living conditions mostly worse than that of people belonging to higher castes. This project shall put the attention on the destiny of millions of Dalits in India.
